Youth Team Head Coach steps down

Following many years and three seasons as head coach, it is with sadness that the Phoenix announce that Mick Fearn, Head of the Youth team, has stepped down from the role of Head Coach due to unforeseen circumstances. Coach Fearn states

“Stepping down wasn’t exactly what I’d had planned for 2018, but sometimes you just have to shift your priorities. Phoenix is a fantastic place to be! The program is in a great position and is building nicely. Although I’m going to miss helping these young athletes, and watching them go on to bigger and better things. It will be good to watch the Youth section get even stronger and better.”

Coach Fearn has been a dedicated member of the Phamily for many years and Tamworth Phoenix thank him for his countless hours, endless effort and his commitment throughout his time as part of the team. James Hossack (Club President) said “I would like to personally thank Coach Fearn for all he has done for the youth program and the Tamworth Phoenix. Coach Fearn has been a huge part of the ‘Nix Phamily for many years and has been an asset to the program.” It is without a doubt that Coach Fearn will be sorely missed by all at the Phoenix, and hope to see him again in the near future. Likewise, Coach Fearn reflected on his time with the team. “Phoenix will always be Phamily to me. I’ve met some amazing people and made great friends, it will not be easy stepping back. Can I just say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been a part of Phoenix Youth along with all the amazing coaches and staff who we’ve competed with, sharing the same vision and values of youth football”.

Following the loss of Coach Fearn, The Phoenix are delighted to announce the appointment of Karl Burgess as interim Head Coach. Coach Burgess highlights what this will mean for the teams upcoming season “Obviously it’s disappointing to lose coach Fearn but as a result of his years of hard work with the club, he has left us with a great set up and some very talented players. Myself and the coaching team are confident we can continue to move in the right direction and produce players who can go on to have a bright future in the game.”.  Coach Fearn said “I’ve coached against Coach Burgess, and have been thankful to share the sideline with him also. The Young Phoenix are in great hands and I couldn’t be happier to hand over the reigns to him.”

The entire Phoenix program wish Coach Burgess the best of luck and are excited to see what the 2018 season brings!

The Tamworth Youth Team have a “Superbowl Special” taster session this Sunday 4th February 2018. This will be held at The Rawlett School, Comberford Road, B79 9AA. The Phoenix are always recruiting for players, coaches and assistants who want to become a part of the Phamily. No experience is necessary, so why not come down this Sunday and see what this program is all about!!!
